Suffering & GriefScripture-grounded answer
What Does the Bible Say About Being Alone?
Being alone in the Bible can mean different things. Sometimes it is painful isolation; other times it is a place of prayer, preparation, and meeting with God.
What the Bible says
- Scripture
It is not good that the man should be alone.
Genesis 2:18 The Bible recognizes the human need for companionship and belonging.
- Scripture
And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
Luke 5:16 Jesus also shows that solitude can become a place of prayer and renewal.
- Scripture
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
Psalm 62:5 Being alone can become spiritually meaningful when the soul waits on God.
A grounded way to understand this
The Bible does not treat being alone as only good or only bad. Isolation can wound, but solitude with God can restore.
