How to Overcome Fear With God

What the Bible says

1. Scripture

   The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

   Fear weakens when your focus shifts from the threat to the One who strengthens you.

   Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

   Courage in scripture is rooted in God’s presence, not personal confidence alone.

   If God be for us, who can be against us?

   This verse reframes opposition and difficulty in light of God’s faithfulness.

A grounded way to understand this

Fear is overcome by repeatedly returning to what is stronger than fear. The Bible does not call you to pretend you are brave, but to remember who is with you.
