What the Bible says

   A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

   The Bible describes envy as something destructive inwardly. Jealousy often harms the person carrying it more than the person being envied.

   For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

   Envy creates disorder in relationships and inside the mind. It rarely stays small once it takes root.

   Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

   Much jealousy comes from comparison and the desire for recognition. Scripture points back toward humility instead.
