Suffering & GriefScripture-grounded answer

What Does the Bible Say About Hopelessness?

The Bible speaks honestly about despair, discouragement, and feeling overwhelmed. Scripture does not deny hopelessness exists, but it continually points people back toward hope in God.

What the Bible says

Scripture
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Psalm 42:11
The psalmist speaks honestly to despair while still turning toward hope.
Scripture
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing.
Romans 15:13
God is repeatedly described as the source of hope.
Scripture
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed.
Lamentations 3:21-23
Hope begins when the mind remembers God's mercy and faithfulness.
