What Does the Bible Say About Depression?
The Bible does not use the modern word depression, but it clearly speaks about deep sorrow, heaviness, and despair. It shows that even faithful people experienced emotional darkness, yet were not abandoned in it.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psalm 34:18 God is described as near specifically to those who feel broken, not distant from them.

Psalm 42:11 The psalmist openly questions his own emotional state while still turning toward hope.
