Suffering & GriefScripture-grounded answer
How Does God Use Suffering?
The Bible does not say suffering is good in itself, but it does show that God can use suffering for growth, refinement, compassion, and deeper trust.
What the Bible says
- Scripture
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.
Romans 8:28 God can work good through even painful situations, though that does not mean the pain itself is easy.
- Scripture
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble.
2 Corinthians 1:4 Comfort received in suffering can become comfort given to others.
- Scripture
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work.
James 1:3-4 Suffering can produce patience and maturity over time.
A grounded way to understand this
God using suffering does not mean He is careless with your pain. It means pain does not get the final word over what your life can become.
